The hike to the Gran Cono del Vesuvio is the classic route that allows you to reach the crater rim and observe one of the world’s most famous volcanoes up close. An accessible experience, suitable for those who want to experience Vesuvius firsthand, walking along volcanic trails and admiring extraordinary views of the crater and the Gulf of Naples.

itinerary
The hike begins at an altitude of 1,000 meters , at the turnstile leading to the Gran Cono trail. After meeting with the volcanologist guide , you’ll be given initial instructions on the route and the environment you’ll be traversing.
The first section involves climbing along a path of about 1000 meters , with a total elevation gain of 160 meters . The climb is undertaken very slowly , in about 15–20 minutes , allowing everyone to gradually adapt to the volcanic terrain.
Once you reach the summit, the route continues along a nearly 750-meter- long , almost completely flat path that runs along the crater rim. This section allows you to observe the interior of the Gran Cono del Vesuvio , the fumaroles, and the structure of the crater, as well as enjoying spectacular views of the surrounding area.
During the hike, the guide will accompany the group with explanations of Vesuvius’s eruptive history, the formation of the crater, and the geological characteristics of the area.
The return journey follows the same route.
