Sunset Trekking itinerary to the Summit Craters of Etna
The route
The excursion begins in the late afternoon, meeting at the Mareneve Kiosk Bar in Piano Provenzana, at an altitude of 1,800 meters. After meeting with the volcanologist guide , we’ll board 4×4 vehicles along the scenic road on the north side of Etna, reaching an altitude of 2,900 meters.
The trek begins here: approximately 3 km of walking with an elevation gain of 450 meters, leading to the volcano’s summit area, at an altitude of 3,300 meters.
Once we reach the summit craters , we’ll stop to admire the spectacular sunset over Etna , in a natural setting of rare beauty.
The descent initially follows the same route, then crosses channels of ash and volcanic scoria until we return to the 4×4 vehicles , which take the group back to Piano Provenzana.
Return is expected around 10:30 PM.

- High altitude route, good physical preparation is required
- Unstable volcanic terrain, caution is needed
- The excursion may be subject to changes or interrupted for safety reasons.
- Suitable for children aged 13 and up

Not recommended for people with cardiovascular or respiratory conditions or hypertension.
Contact lenses are not recommended for gas and volcanic ash.
Not permitted for pregnant women after the third month of pregnancy.
